These wines are made using old fashioned and forgotten grapes, Aramon, Piquepoul Noir, and Rivairenc, that are now very rare and hard to find in France. The result are elegant and refined wines, very aromatic and light. They are a wonderful homage to Pierre Cros' grandmother and what she taught him from life: that you can make beautiful and delicious things with what you already have.

Situated in the South West of France in the Gers in the little village of Nogaro, this vintage armagnac is made by the oldest firm in Armagnac, Baron d'Artigues now run by Francoise and Jean-Pierre Dartigalongue. There is an impressive museum on the site, well worth a visit. Armagnac is mostly made with a grape called Ugni Blanc, and is distilled only once and aged in a different wood, therefore more rustic and fuller than Cognac. This particular vintage is from 1989.

It was in 1872 that Joseph Dartigalongue founded Armagnac La Croix de Salles, named after the property he acquired in Salles d'Armagnac, in the heart of Bas-Armagnac. Since then, every year, the eau-de-vie that comes out of the still is housed in oak barrels to produce, after a long aging in their century-old cellars, Armagnacs of great finesse. Armagnac is mostly made with a grape called Ugni Blanc, and is distilled only once and aged in a different wood, therefore more rustic and fuller than Cognac. This particular vintage is from 1982.

Fruity nose with aromas of quetsche (plum), followed by notes of gingerbread and vanilla. The mouth is already very soft, ample, and has a nice sweetness.
