Cheese Wine Pairing
The realm of cheese is as vast as the world of wine; there are dozens of styles from all around the world, and, just like wine, each has a unique personality. The good news is that all cheese is compatible with wine. They’re a match made in heaven. Here’s how to pair the most common types of cheese with wine.
Pair fresh cheese and curd cheese like ricotta, goat cheese, Brie, Camembert, burrata and paneer, amongst others, with light-bodied, crisp white wine like Sauvignon Blanc or Vermentino.
Semi-hard and hard cheese, like Cheddar, Manchego, Emmental, Gruyere, Edam and Gouda, are best paired with red wine with medium tannins. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Grenache are compatible with this type of cheese.
Blue cheese is best paired with sweet wine, including Muscat, Riesling and the famous Sauternes. Sweetness contrasts with the saltiness in wine, and the sweet wines’ persistency is as lengthy as the intense aroma in blue cheese and rind-washed cheese. Find the right wine for every cheese in our cheese and wine selection below.
