Cotes de Bourg
The Cotes de Bourg appellation is located in Bordeaux, around the town of Bourg-sur-Gironde. The first vines grown here are thought to be of Roman origin, with Bourg being a major area for exporting wine. Cotes de Bourg has 3,950 hectares of red grape varieties and only 29 hectares of white growing, with 85% of this wine production being sold in France.
Recognised as an official AOC in 1936, this appellation has 400 wine growers, with only approximately 250 being independent wine growers. The most popular grapes grown are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc.
