Alsace Riesling
The Riesling grape originated in the Rhine Valley and is world-renowned. Riesling, found in Alsace and Germany, is a very sought after, elegant wine and the perfect accompaniment to gastronomic meals. Alsace Riesling is the last grape variety in the region to fully ripen and known as the 'King of Alsace'. Alsace Riesling grapes are hardier which allows them to be picked very late in the year to build up a good sugar content.
Alsatians consider Alsace Riesling to be their most popular grape of which they are the proudest. Alsace Riesling wines are dry, greasy and delicately fruity yet can come in a variety of styles depending on its maturity. Younger Alsace Riesling wines have a more steely finish which develop into honey with age. What particularly makes the Alsace Riesling grape stand out is its distinct nose of petrol.
